Just when the Health Department officials were claiming that the dengue season was about to end as the virus gets weak with the fall in temperature, the number of dengue cases has unusually witnessed a sudden spurt.

With at least 10 new cases reported in the past four days, the total count has reached 60. The false and misleading reports by unqualified physicians in rural areas are troubling the Health Department officials more than the increased patient count.

The department officials stated that certain elements were creating panic among patients and their family members.

District epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan said they had also issued a notice to an RMP in Gumtala area after he was found indulging in the malpractice. “People should visit only qualified labs and physicians. There is no antibiotic for dengue and it is managed symptomatically,” he said platelet count decrease could also occur in cases of viral attack, malaria and other chronic issues apart from dengue.

He said dengue virus was at its last stage and people should exercise relevant precautions to stay safe. The use of mosquito repellents should not be discontinued, he said.

‘Refrain from indulging in malpractices’

The department officials stated that certain elements were creating panic among patients and their family members. District epidemiologist Dr Madan Mohan has urged people to refrain from indulging in malpractices and take precautions for dengue.
