A land dispute in Bhakna Khurd village turned ugly when several persons shot at a group, leaving four injured, here on Wednesday. They were rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) where one of them is said to be critical.

The injured have been identified as Satpal Singh, Gurlal Singh, Iqbal Singh and Gurbhej Singh. The condition of Gurlal is serious. He has been referred to a private hospital.

Satpal Singh informed the police that he had a land dispute with Sukhjinder Singh Sukha and Sahib of the same village. After a legal battle, Satpal got the court’s verdict in his favour. “Despite that, the accused were not ready to hand over the possession of the land. I informed the police station concerned three days ago which failed to take any action,” he said.

According to Satpal, the accused, along with his accomplices, started working in the fields on Wednesday and when he raised objection, the accused fired at them. He suffered bullet injuries on his leg while Gurlal received bullet injuries in stomach. He said Iqbal and Gurbhej also sustained bullet injuries on their hand and leg, respectively.

Attari DSP Arun Sharma said the police had registered a case under Section 307 of the IPC and relevant sections under the Arms Act against the accused and raids were on to nab them. Further investigation is under way.
