GNDU outsourced staff protest for regular jobs

The outsourced employees of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) blocked the main entrance of the university during a protest on Monday. They have been protesting against the outsourcing system of employment. The blockade continued for a few hours.

The protesters also expressed their agitation over the change of the outsourcing company in the current session. They alleged that salary cut had been inflicted on them due to the change of company. They demand wages as per the existing DC rates for contractual employees.

“We demand abolition of the outsourcing system of employment. We should be employed directly by the university,” said a protester. “We have been put under the outsourcing system and it can’t be justified. Our wages have been decreased. We want proper wages. We do not have any job security,” said another protester.

Employees of different departments of the university took part in the agitation. The employees rolled back the protest after the intervention of the local police.

Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar, Guru Nanak Dev University, said, “They are already being provided wages in accordance with the DC rate. The same will continue with the present company. Outsourcing cannot be abolished. Once the state government comes up with vacancies, proper employment will be ensured.”
