Man held with 75-kg poppy husk

The police claimed to have arrested a man with 75-kg poppy husk smuggled from Srinagar. He was transporting the narcotic in a special cabin of his vehicle.

The SSP, Dr Sandeep Garg, said on a tip-off Malerkotla-I police station SHO Harwinder Singh intercepted a vehicle near the town on Wednesday night. During search, the police party seized 75-kg poppy husk from the vehicle.

“It’s the first recovery in district of poppy husk cultivated in Srinagar. Its quality is better than poppy husk from other places and fetches higher price. The accused, Mohammad Ramzan, who belongs to Kila Rehmatgarh, had created a special cabin in his vehicle to hide the husk,” said the SSP.  — TNS
