The police have booked nine persons for allegedly running sealed marriage palaces in the city. These palaces were sealed by the civic body on the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after these failed to fulfil the conditions of the government.

Owners of several marriage palaces allegedly broke the seal by defying the orders of the court. They are also accused of holding events in sealed marriage places. The matter pertaining to it is sub judice.

Sonali Giri, MC Commissioner stated in her complaint to the E Division police station that the accused didn’t fulfil the requirement for running their palaces. She said the matter was in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The MC Commissioner said their palaces were sealed on the court orders. “The accused broke the seal of their palaces and opened them without any legal order or permission,” she added.

The accused have been identified as Narinder Singh, Parminder Singh, Gurnam Singh, Charanjit Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Bikramjit Singh, Kamar Amrinder Singh and Kawaljit Kaur.

A case under Sections 390 and 400 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act and Sections 448, 109 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered at the B-Division police station.

The MC had sealed these palaces in 2015-16 for not following the norms. The marriage places did not have Change of Land (CLU) certificates and other required documents. Recently, a local RTI activist had taken up the matter.
