Leaders from across the political parties condemned the suspected terrorist attack at the Nirankari Bhavan in Adliwal village here on Sunday. The Opposition, meanwhile, criticised the Congress government in the state for its “failure” to maintain law and order.

BJP state president Shwait Malik said the incident had exposed the failure of the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government besides instilling a sense of fear and insecurity among the people of the state. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased while wishing for early recovery of the injured. “It appears that bomb blasts, robberies, thefts and gang-wars have become an order of the day while the Congress government is sleeping,” he said.

Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said serious measures should be taken to maintain law and order. He also visited the spot and met the injured in the hospital. He said anti-national elements were raising their head.

Rattan Singh Randhawa, president, Revolutionary Marxist Party of India, said certain unscrupulous elements were trying to vitiate the hard-earned peace in Punjab.

CPI district secretary Lakhbir Singh and Amarjit Singh Asal, who too visited the site, said the government should provide appropriate compensation and free treatment to the victims. They said the Punjab government should desist from sheltering anti-social elements for their vested interests.

Earlier, Cabinet minister OP Soni and Revenue Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria visited the spot. They said the government would not allow anti-national and anti-social elements to raise their heads again. They said the government had announced compensation and free treatment to the victims.
