Prisoner flees from police custody

AMRITSAR: A prisoner at the Central Jail, Kapurthala, who was undergoing treatment at the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here, managed to flee on Friday.

A prisoner at the Central Jail, Kapurthala, who was undergoing treatment at the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here, managed to flee on Friday. The prisoner has been identified as Manjinder Singh, alias Soni, a resident of Ebrahimwal Colony, near Begowal, Kapurthala. The police have booked three constables for negligence. The accused policemen are constables Manual Masih, Sharanjit Singh and Sajan Kumar.

Jaswinder Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, Kapurthala, said Manjinder got ill on March 6 and the medical officer of the jail referred him to Civil Hospital, Kapurthala. He was further referred to the GND Hospital. The constables took the accused to Amritsar. On Friday morning, the accused slipped away from the custody.

The police have registered a case under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC in this regard.
