Teenager raped, 3 youths arrested

The rural police today arrested three youths for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl. The incident occurred on Saturday. The suspects have been identified as Jashan Kumar of Beauty Avenue, Ranjit Singh and Ajay Singh of Jagoana Colony, at Mahal village.

The statement of the victim was recorded before a judicial magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC after she underwent medical examination.

The victim informed the police that she, along with one of her female friends, hired an auto on Saturday morning for going to school. "Instead of taking us to school, the autorickshaw driver took us towards the Chheharta road where Ranjit Singh and Ajay Singh were present. They took me on their bike while Jashan took my friend to some other place," she alleged.

According to her, Ranjit Singh took her to some hotel near the Golden Temple where he raped her while Ajay Singh stood outside the hotel. He alleged that around an hour later, the accused took her towards the India Gate on Amritsar-Attari bypass road on their bike where Jashan Kumar arrived with her friend. She alleged that the accused threatened them not to tell anyone about this while issuing death threats.

The complainant said that she narrated the incident to her parents who accompanied her, along with her friend, to the police station where they lodged a complaint.

Sub-Inspector Chanchal, investigating officer, said the three accused were arrested while the victim’s statement was also recorded before the judicial magistrate after conducting medical examination. She said a case under Sections 376, 506, 34 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act was registered against them.
