Tarn Taran: Three members of a family of Naushihra Pannuan village have been booked for defrauding Nirvail Singh of nearby Sheron village. Investigating Officer, ASI Mukhtar Singh said the accused have been identified as Narinder Singh, his wife Jasbir Kaur and son Deepak Singh.  The accused took lakhs of rupees from the victim four years ago promising to send his son abroad. They neither kept their promise nor returned the money, the complainant alleged. A case has been registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC. Further investigation is underway, the police said. OC

Man nabbed at Pak border

Amritsar: Border Security Force personnel nabbed a person who was found roaming in the restricted area near the international border on Wednesday. He was identified as Kala Singh, a resident of Fatahgarh in Ambala. The BSF handed him over to the police. Kala Singh appears to be mentally unsound while further investigation is underway, the police said. TNS

CBSE exhibition

Students of several local schools displayed their science models and math projects at the CBSE regional science exhibition in Jalandhar recently. As many as 127 schools had participated in the exhibition. Some of them have been selected for the national level science exhibition. The models of students of DAV International School bagged third and fourth positions. A model by students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School was also selected for national level exhibition. TNS

One held with ‘illicit’ liquor

Tarn Taran: The local police have arrested Rajinder Singh of Muradpur locality and recovered 30 litres of “illicit” liquor from his possession. ASI Sanjeevan Singh said that a case under Sections 1, 61 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against him. The trade of illicit liquor in the region has been on the rise. Recently, the police have come across several illegal distilleries in the district. OC

Heroin seized, man held

The police have arrested Amarjit Singh of Chohla Sahib village and recovered 300 gram of heroin from his possession. Sub-Inspector (SI) Sukhraj Singh said a case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. OC
