Several armed men attacked three persons at Mahal village here on Sunday. The victims have been identified as Pargat Singh, Veeru and Rajwinder Singh, who were taken to a private hospital.

Rajwinder of Dhaul village told the police that on Sunday evening, he was on his way to his village from Putlighar when he saw around 10 persons thrashing Pargat and Veeru at Mahal village. Rajwinder said he parked his bike and followed them.

He added that before he could reach there, the suspects hit Pargat and Veeru with sharp and blunt weapons, leaving them injured. “I tried to intervene and pacify the accused. However, they also attacked me. When the police were informed, they fled away with their weapons,” he said.

Rajwinder said, “The accused were involved in drug peddling in the area and the victims used to oppose them.”

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal said the culprits would be brought to justice and efforts were on to nab the suspects. He said an investigation was underway to identify the assailants.

The incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed in the area. The police have registered a case in this regard.
