In a shocking incident, a woman, along with her alleged paramour, attacked her grandmother as she used to object to their relationship at Chatiwind on Wednesday. Both the accused, including the alleged lover identified as Vikram Singh of Bharowal village in Tarn Taran, had been arrested by the Chatiwind police on Thursday.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Balbir Kaur (70), used to object over Vikram Singh coming to the house as it would have bad influence on the two minor girls in the house.

Investigating Officer ASI Subhash Chander said the accused woman had got separated from her husband and was living, along with her two daughters, with her grandmother Balbir Kaur.

The incident came to light when Balbir Kaur’s daughter Charanjit Kaur, along with her cousin Kanwaljit Singh, came to meet her. Charanjit stated to the police that when they came they found the doors bolted from inside. They heard the duo quarrelling with the victim. Before they could understand anything, they heard the cries of her mother and when they peeped inside, they found Vikram hitting her with a hammer. She said they immediately raised the alarm following which both the accused fled.

The Investigating Officer said the accused had sent her two daughters to the neighbour’s house. As Balbir Kaur objected to it, they started quarrelling with her. Charanjit said she heard the accused woman asking Charanjit of eliminating the elderly woman. Balbir was rushed to a private hospital. Her condition is stated to be serious.

He said a case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC had been registered against them and both were arrested today. They would be produced in a court on Friday.
