Gurpreet Singh, who was allegedly kept in illegal detention at Jandiala Guru police station, reached home today. He was kept at the residence of a policeman near Chhajjalwadi village, he said.

Today, the cops called a member of the municipal council and handed him over to the family through him. Though the family members were happy after his safe return home, they feared that the police could file a false case against him. Gurpreet Singh of Sheikhu Mohalla of Jandiala was picked by the police on Sunday and asked the family members to produce his brother Gagandeep whom they suspected was involved in drug trafficking.

Paramjit Kaur, mother of Gurpreet, said Gagan had been missing for the past three months and the family did not know his whereabouts. When their plea to release Gurpreet failed to bear fruit, they approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which deputed a warrant officer. Before the warrant officer could reach the police station, the cops moved him to an unknown place.

Advocate Gurjinderjit Singh Sahota, legal counsellor of the family, said they would approach the IG, Border Range, SPS Parmar, requesting him to take appropriate action against Jandiala police. He claimed that he had the video recording of three persons who were in the police lock-up and told the warrant officer that the police had shifted the boy minutes before their arrival.
