Rajouri, June 16
A 10-year-old girl was among two persons injured in heavy shelling and firing by Pakistani troops in border areas of Poonch district today.
The Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire violation in Bandi Chechian, Kirni and Qasba areas of Poonch sector and in Mendhar sector. Beginning with firing by small weapons, the enemy soldiers took to shelling of mortars at Indian Army’s forward locations and in civilian areas.
The police said mortars partially damaged a house in lower Shahpur panchayat, leaving the girl, Razia, injured. Officials said the Indian Army had been “effectively retaliating”. — TNS
SHO hurt in june 12 attack succumbs
Srinagar: A J&K Police officer who was injured in a militant attack in Anantnag on June 12 succumbed at New Delhi’s AIIMS on Sunday. Five CRPF personnel and a fidayeen were killed in the shooting. Arshad Khan, 41, the Station House Officer of Sadar Anantnag police station, was critically injured in a militant attack. He was airlifted to AIIMS from Srinagar hospital earlier in the day as his condition deteriorated. At the time of the attack, Khan was attending a seminar and rushed towards the spot as gunfire reverberated. TNS
