The examination for internal evaluation of Class V and VIII began at Government Elementary Schools here today. According to official information 18,295 students appeared in Class V evaluation examination in the district. As many as 388 students were reported absent.

The district education officer (DEO) Salwinder Singh Samra visited several schools and distributed pens and cookies among students before the examination.

A team from the office of the DEO visited Government Middle School, Khairabad, Government Senior Secondary School, Heir, Government Senior Secondary School, Chheherta, Government Middle School, Faizpur, Government Senior Secondary School, Nagh Kalan and Government Senior Secondary School, Bal Kalan.

The government has not being conducting examination of Class V and VIII under the Punjab School Education Board after the implementation of the Right to Education Act. To evaluate the performance of students the Education Department conducts evaluation examination for these classes. Students get grades as per their performance but, teachers cannot fail them.

The DEO (Elementary), Salwinder Singh Samra said students, who appeared in examination, would be promoted to the next class.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that in absence of furniture students were forced to sit on ground to take examination. Teachers were also seen helping students for good results.
