18 held with drugs

AMRITSAR:Amid the ongoing war against drugs, the police have arrested 18 persons for possessing drugs in the district.

Amid the ongoing war against drugs, the police have arrested 18 persons for possessing drugs in the district.

The CIA staff nabbed three bikers for possessing intoxicants, including heroin, here on Saturday. They were held at a police checkpoint in Islamabad following a tip-off.

Those arrested were identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Raju, of Guru Ki Wadali, Sunny Kumar of Bhutanpura in Islamabad, and Sukhdev Singh, alias Bholu, of Anngarh, who resides in Guru Ki Wadali.

The police have seized 1,000 intoxicating tablets and 30 gm of heroin from their possession.

Vavinder Mahajan, in charge of the CIA staff, said, “As per preliminary investigation, they used to procure heroin from a local drug peddler.”

Meanwhile, the Division C police station have arrested Lakhwinder Singh of Kukranwala village and seized 855 intoxicating tablets. The police are trying to ascertain the source of contraband.

In another incident, Tarlok Singh, alias Sonu, and Guljinder Singh, both residents of Chheharta, were arrested with 5 gm of heroin.

Meantime, the Amritsar rural police arrested a truck driver, Harjinder Singh, of Ajnala and confiscated 7 kg of poppy husk from his possession. The same was concealed in the tool box of the truck.

The rural police nabbed 11 persons in separate incidents for allegedly possessing banned drugs. The Lopoke police arrested Balraj Singh, Kishan Singh, both residents of Chak Mishri Khan village, and Pargat Singh of Maure Kalan village with 300 intoxicating tablets and 2 gm of heroin.

They have been identified as Malkiat Singh (240 tablets) of Pandori Waraich village, Ranjit Singh (4-gm heroin) of Sorian Mohammad village, Lovepreet Singh (190 tablets) of Timmowal village, Nanak Singh (110 tablets) of Lahori Mal village, Buta Masih (5-gm heroin) of Khanwal village, Jagjit Singh (100 tablets) of Bhindi Saida, Ravel Singh (195 tablets) of Mehta and Sukhbir Singh (185 tablets) of Jandiala.
