A married woman was kidnapped by a group of persons in the Mehta area. She was abducted in order to take revenge as her cousin married to the daughter of the accused in the court.

The victim identified as Sukhwinder Kaur (32) was recovered from Fatehabad village by a police team led by SHO Satpal Singh. On Monday her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC in the court and later handed over to her family.

Jagdish Kumar, a resident of Amritsar road in Mehta, said on Friday evening, the accused barged into his house and thrashed his wife Sukhwinder Kaur. He was not at home at that time. He was informed by people that the accused came in a vehicle. They beat her up and later bundled in the vehicle and fled.

Jagdish Kumar said first he tried to locate her but failed. He suspected that the accused had kidnapped her for taking revenge. He said the accused later asked them to return their daughter and take the woman back.

SHO Satpal Singh said the police immediately registered a case under Sections 365, 427, 452 and 120-B of the IPC against Narinder Singh, his wife Raj Kaur, son Ravi and four others. He said the accused took her to Amritsar and a day later shifted her to Fatehabad in Tarn Taran.

“We managed to recover the victim after tracing the locations of the accused,” he said. They had hidden the woman in the residence of their relative in Fatehabad from where she was recovered last evening and brought to the police station. Her statement was recorded in the court today and thereafter she was handed over to her family members. He said raids were on to nab the culprits.
