Another incident of firing into the air was reported on Thursday. The Chheharta police arrested Sagar Kumar, a resident of New Model Town, Khandwala, Chheharta, as he fired two gunshots in the air, creating a panic in the area. He was caught by a patrolling party of the police. The revolver and two empty shells were confiscated. Ironically, Sagar doesn’t own the weapon.

Harjinder Singh, investigating officer, said Sagar informed him that the weapon belonged to his friend Gagandeep Joshi, a resident of Kale Ghannupur. He had borrowed the same for firing in a marriage function. He said the police had registered a case under Section 336 (act endangering life or safety of others) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54, 59-A of the Arms Act. He said Gagandeep would be interrogated to gather details about the ownership of the weapon and appropriate action would be taken.

It is worth mentioning here that on Wednesday, panic gripped Kale Ghannupur when a youth fired around three gunshots in the air in Chheharta. He was identified as Sukhwinder Singh, alias Bubble, of Master Baua Singh Chakki Wali Gali. His accomplice Manpreet Singh of Kale village managed to flee. The police said raids were on to nab him.

Sukhwinder also told the police that the weapon belonged to one Harpal Singh of Kale Ghannupur, said Satpal Singh, in charge of the Kale Ghannupur police post. The accused, along with Manpreet, had parked an SUV PB-46-G-0089 on the roadside. They were standing outside the vehicle and firing in the air. The police found three empty shells from the spot. It also confiscated the .32 bore revolver from his possession.

ADCP Lakhbir Singh said, “It is a very serious issue. Law will take its own course. The youth indulge in such activities only for show off. We are not going to spare them. We will register a case against them and the weapon owners will also be taken to task. Their licenses will be cancelled.”
