Amritsar, July 14

Accusing the police of inaction in an assault case, activists of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) held a demonstration outside the D-division police station here on Sunday.

The protesters alleged that several persons attacked the house of Manisha, a resident of Katra Khazana, around two months ago, but the police did not take action on the complaint of the victim and her family members.

The RMPI activists headed by Jagtar Singh Karampura threatened to intensify the protest if the police failed to provide justice to the victim.

Karampura said several persons had attacked Manisha on April 29 and in which, he was injured.

He said the police even did not conduct the medical examination of the victim and reported a case in the daily dairy report. He added that for the past two months, her family has been making rounds of the police station, but to no avail. He alleged that under the influence of their political bosses, the police were not providing justice to her.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said he had asked the ACP to look into the matter. The ADCP said the matter was brought to his notice on Sunday and appropriate action would be taken against the suspects.
