City hub of preparation for competitive exams

AMRITSAR: The city has emerged as a hub for competitive exam preparation for students living in nearby cities and districts. Students from nearby cities and the border belt, who are already studying in city-based coaching institutes, have fared well in NEET the results of which were declared recently.

The city has emerged as a hub for competitive exam preparation for students living in nearby cities and districts. Students from nearby cities and the border belt, who are already studying in city-based coaching institutes, have fared well in NEET the results of which were declared recently.

A massive number of students from areas, such as Chabal, Tarn Taran, Dera Baba Nanak and others, are taking admissions to different institutes across the city.

Notably, Ranjit Avenue and Rani Ka Bagh have emerged as commercial educational centres over the years. They host numerous institutes offering preparations for competitive examinations, medical, engineering entrance, IELTS training for immigrations, among others.

Rishab Gupta, Director, T.I.M.E Institute, said, “Students are coming in large numbers from areas as far as Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and also Chabal and Tarn Taran. Students number depends upon the type of the course. Students are coming to us for banking and management preparations.” Dhanraj Singh, a student of Wisdom Classes, who recently got AIR 1054, belongs to Tarn Taran.

He used to travel daily from Tarn Taran to attend classes. He says that he chose to come to the holy city due to lack of proper institutions there. “I, along with three others, used to come to Amritsar to study daily. Lack of proper institute is the reason I chose my institute in Amritsar,” he said.

Uttamjeet Singh, a teacher at Wisdom Classes, said, “The credibility of the institute, faculty pulls students towards a particular institute.”

Dr Roma, owner of BDS Institute of English, said, “The IELTS trend has increased due to better opportunities abroad. We have a course on personality development, PTE exam for immigration in Australia and IELTS among others.” Roma, who has been running an institute for last 14 years, feels that number of students belonging to places other than the holy city has increased. Students are coming massively for the IELTS from different areas.
