Residents of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar, near Putlighar Chowk, have demanded from the Municipal Corporation (MC) to find a permanent solution to the problem of contaminated water supply in the area. They say that that the problem resurfaces after every two months, forcing them to run after MC officials to get it fixed.

A resident, Anuradha, said, “After every two or three months, we start getting contaminated water. We can neither consume it nor take bath. Foul smell, like that of a sewage, emanates from the water. An epidemic may break out at any point of time.”

Residents say that after receiving their complaints, MC officials take steps to get it fixed but the issue raises its ugly head after some time.

Former district BJP president Naresh Sharma, who have now taken up the matter with the MC, said, “It seems that sewage seeps into the water supply lines, making it contaminated. At some places, water lines are adjacent to those of sewerage. A permanent solution is required. A few days ago, MC officials had visited the site after which the problem decreased up to some extent. However, it hasn’t been dealt with completely.”

Residents said they had got tired of complaining to officials concerned of the MC again and again. An area resident, Jasbir Bhatti, said, “The MC should look into the problem as we are suffering for the last two years.”
