Dalit woman alleges rape

Amritsar, October 16

A 50-year-old woman from the Dalit community has accused a person of Nava Jeevan village of rape. The victim stated to the police that the accused, Mahinder Singh, a resident of Lodhi Gujjar village, came to her house and asked for her husband and sons, who work as labourers. When she told him that they were out for work, the accused caught hold of her and raped her, she alleged. 

She said he threatened her of murdering her family members if she told anyone about it. Balwinder Kaur, investigating officer, said the victim’s medical examination was conducted and raids were on to nab the suspect. — TNS
