The District TB Control Office today stated that a total of 631 new TB patients were detected in the first three months of the current year. District TB officer, Dr Naresh Chawla, said a total of 4,125 new patients were detected during 2016.

He said increasing awareness about the disease was helping in detection of new patients as earlier people did not report to hospitals because of the social stigma.

Dr Chawla added that patients covered under the National TB Control Programme were given free medicines.

He said efforts of the local administration in creating awareness among residents of the TB prone areas in city, which actually were lesser hygienic, helped in controlling the disease to a great extent.

He added that the awareness campaign to educate masses about disease would continue in future as well as previous drives had given fruitful results.
