For modern Ranjha, all is fair for easy passport to Canada

The scene where he mutters the dialogue received applause as well as some introspection. The play enacted brilliantly by the young cast of YUVAA Theatre group from Jalandhar, kind of summed up the central theme of the play.

Ishque Remix, a humourous, telling play about love in the times of green card rush and Canada dreams was staged during the ongoing theatre festival at the art gallery. The play was written by Devinder Singh, a school teacher, who put together his experience of witnessing young lovers in pursuit of not love but foreign shores. Directed by Ankur Sharma, the play presented twisted, modern versions of Ranjha and Mirza, in the backdrop of modern vs traditional love stories.

So, while the lovers today might look only for each others’ passports and visa viability, love is not all dead. The Canada-returned protagonist in the play represents the prospective groom, whose only USP is his dollar enriched life. The satire was delightful in its presentation and narrative while the cast enacted their characters relatively.
