A day after a youth and his family members went missing at the eleventh hour of his marriage, the police booked the youth on the charge of rape. The victim alleged that the accused youth, identified as Mohit Sehgal, made physical relations with her on the pretext of marrying her.

The victim had lodged a complaint with the local police earlier, too, after the youth refused to marry her. As the police were about to register a case, the boy and his family members agreed to marry their son with the victim.

All arrangements for the marriage were made. On Saturday, the girl and her family were waiting for the groom and his family at a local temple on Sultanwind Road, but the latter did not turn up. Later, when they went to groom’s house, they found it locked. Their mobile numbers were also switched off.

The girl and her family lodged a complaint with the police again, following which a case was registered against the Mohit and his relatives.

The victim told the police that Mohit’s mother ran a tuition centre and she used to study. She alleged that Mohit lured her and made physical relations while promising to marry her. She alleged that he also made recorded her video. After a couple of years of the relationship, when she asked him to marry, he refused. She narrated the entire incident to her family members, who met Mohit’s family and urged them to marry their son with her, the girl said. However, they refused.

She lodged a complaint with the local police. Due to fear of registration of case, the suspect agreed to marry her.  The police said a case had been registered and further investigation was under way. Raids were on to nab the culprits.
