Institute for Blind celebrates Braille Day

Amritsar: The Institute for the Blind, Lohgarh gate, celebrated Braille Day as special packages were announced for the inmates of the residential school.

The Institute for the Blind, Lohgarh gate, celebrated Braille Day as special packages were announced for the inmates of the residential school. Deputy Commisoner Ravi Bhagat, who was the chief guest, inaugurated a special computer-training programme for the students, who have completed higher education in the institute. He also gave Rs 5 lakh for the construction of bathrooms at the institute. 

The school runs a residential education and skill-development programme for more than 52 inmates. The academic and vocational training is provided free of cost along with food and other facilities. The new computer course is designed to empower the children to work in technically advanced fields. “Sixteen of our students will be imparted training and a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 will also be given to each of them after the completion of the training. Also, we received donations from our volunteers for our music training programme and other skill-development programmes,” said Ashok Sethi, president, Institute for the Blind. The institute currently has a faculty of 10 teachers for its courses. 

The Deputy Commissioner also announced to support the advanced computer-training programme bearing the incidental charges, salaries for the trained staff and other expenses.
