Job uncertainty frights GNDU ad hoc staff

Job uncertainty has made ad hoc teaching staff at the constituent colleges of GNDU skeptical about their future.

After the university resumed classes, the teaching staff members were told to teach students. The matter regarding job of some of the teachers, deputed on temporary basis, is pending with the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC). 

Interestingly, there are around 180 teachers, who are fighting a court case regarding their appointment but the letter of appointment has not been given to anyone associated with taking classes. It is pertinent to mention here that the ad-hoc teachers are taking classes on lecture basis and are being paid accordingly. 

Students had also created a ruckus in the constituent colleges for the delay in commencing their classes. The opening of the college has been shifted from time to time due to the court case.

Dr Gupreet Singh, president, Guru Nanak Dev University Association of Ad hoc Teachers’, said, “The colleges have commenced but the problem is that there is no clarity as appointment letters haven’t been issued to us as well as to those who are not fighting any court case.” 

“We are being assured verbally by heads of departments, but we have not received anything in writing. There is a sense of insecurity regarding salaries and appointments,” he added. The staff in such colleges are not even marking their attendance.

Registrar Karanjeet Singh Kahlon said, “The status of their employment shall be cleared once the case is settled in the High Court. However, the staff members will be paid, provided they work. We are waiting for the judgement. The classes have begun for the benefit of the students.”
