State BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik on Saturday visited Shri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport to inspect the ongoing development work. He also conducted a meeting with senior officials, including airport director Manoj Chansoria. He also inspected the ongoing work on VIP lodge, duty-free commercial shops, food courts, spa and health centre.

While addressing a press conference, Swait Malik said the airport had been a victim of the Congress government’s conspiracy during Manmohan Singh’s regime. “It was running in a loss of Rs 80 crore. After becoming Rajya Sabha MP in 2016, I have made serious efforts for the overall development of the airport. Now, it is in profit of Rs 12 crore. It has been declared as the India’s fastest growing airport in 2018-19,” he said.

In 2016, there were only 10,000 flight departures from the airport while in 2018 the number of flights increased to 18,000. The number of passengers have been increased to 12 lakh to 25 lakh per year, Malik claimed.
