Man dies in road mishap

AMRITSAR: A motorcyclist was killed after he was hit by a truck near Vallah railway crossing here Thursday evening.

A motorcyclist was killed after he was hit by a truck near Vallah railway crossing here Thursday evening. However, his wife Gurjit Kaur riding on the pillion escaped unhurt. The victim has been identified as Manjit Singh.

Gurjit Kaur stated to the police that she along with her husband Manjit Singh was going to Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Vallah. When they reached near Vallah railway crossing, a rashly driven truck (PB-06-V-9047) hit them from the rear and ran over my husband, Gurjit said in a statement to the police. He died on the spot while the driver fled, she added.

A case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against the unknown truck driver.
