Amritsar, April 16

An unidentified person was found dead near the Ghukewali village canal here. The police initiated action under the CrPC and later cremated his body after a post-mortem examination at the Ajnala Civil Hospital.

Gurjit Singh, investigating officer, said the body was found by a farmer, Balbir Singh, a resident of Sainsra Kalan village. He informed the police which took the body into their custody. He said efforts were made to identify him but in vain. The police took action under Section 174 of the CrPC in this regard. Gurjit Singh said further necessary action would be taken after getting the post-mortem report and ascertaining the cause of death.
