Mobile, cigarettes seized from inmates

AMRITSAR: A mobile phone and two boxes of cigarettes were seized from two inmates during routine checking at the Central Jail here on Thursday.

A mobile phone and two boxes of cigarettes were seized from two inmates during routine checking at the Central Jail here on Thursday.

In first case, Gurjant Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, said a murder attempt convict, identified as Jaskaran Singh of Sultanwind Road, lodged in barrack number 1 was caught possessing a mobile without SIM. A case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prison Act has been registered against him.

In another case, Gurbachan Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail, said Harnek Singh of Nandpur Kairon village, who has been convicted in connection with a drug peddling case, met his wife who had come to meet him at the Central Jail. During routine checking in the meeting room, guards found him possessing two bundles of cigarettes. A case under Section 42 of the Prison Act has been registered.
