Amritsar, December 8

A newborn baby died at a hospital hours after she was rescued from Gole Bagh on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

After hearing her cries, passers-by informed the police about a child lying in the shrubs in the Gole Bagh area. The police took her to the Civil Hospital from where she was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital after her condition improved a little.

However, she died at the hospital. The child braved the cold in the open at night. The police have registered a case under Sections 315 (act done with intent to prevent a child being born alive or to cause it to die after its birth) and 317 (exposure of a child under 12 years of age by parent or person having care of it with intention of wholly abandoning it) of the Indian Penal Code at the D Division police station against unidentified persons for dumping her in the shrubs.

The police have kept the body in the mortuary for identification.
