Amritsar: The rural police have arrested a Shiv Sena leader, Manjit Singh Gora, and Satnam Singh for allegedly possessing drugs and illicit liquor. Gora is president of Shiv Sena Punjab, Majha Zone. The police said Gora’s residence in Dubgarh Colony, Rayya, was raided on a tip-off. During search, the police found 11-gm heroin besides illicit liquor from the residence. A case under the NDPS Act and Excise Act has been lodged. TNS

Amritsar: Activists of the Safai Mazdoor Union of the MC, led by Sanjay Khosla, submitted a memorandum to Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and health officials to regularise the ‘safai karamcharis’ (sanitation workers). Sanjay Khosla, president, Safai Mazdoor Union, said the MC had passed a resolution to regularise the workers on December 8, 2011. “The office has regularised a few of them, but a large number of workers are still not regularised. The office should fulfill its promise,” he added. TNS
