Amritsar, September 18

The rural police have launched a manhunt to nab the accomplice of Shamsher Singh Shera from whom the police have confiscated around 22-kg heroin so far.

Several drug peddlers’ names have surfaced following Shera’s interrogation, said SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal. The police had confiscated 7.5-kg and 1-kg heroin during his interrogation. Yesterday, his interrogation led to the seizure of over 13-kg heroin from across the barbed fence near Daoke border outpost.

“This is one of the major seizures made by the Punjab Police during recent past,” the SSP claimed. Shera has informed the police that he has been in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers, identified as Kala and Malik, who had hid the contraband across the barbed fence. However, he added that they could not share the names of his Indian accomplices as it could hamper the probe.

The police are trying to ascertain whom was the contraband meant for. More arrests are possible in near future,” the SSP added.
