Congress leaders face problem of plenty

AMRITSAR: After the release of the notification for the panchayat elections, Congress MLAs have been facing a tough time due to many ticket aspirants.

Amritsar, December 16

After the release of the notification for the panchayat elections, Congress MLAs have been facing a tough time due to many ticket aspirants. In most of the villages, after announcements of party candidates, several aspirants have become rebels and claimed to file nominations against party candidates. The aspirants for Congress tickets find victory in elections as an easy task because it has been seen in the past that the ruling parties win most of the panchayats. Rebel candidates may lead to triangular fights in several villages.

The notification for the elections came out on December 15. The time for filing nominations will end on December 19. The administration will scrutinise the nomination papers on December 20 and the candidates withdraw their papers till December 21. The elections will be held on December 30. There are 860 gram panchayats in the district.

Electoral officer ADC Ravinder Singh constituted 85 clusters in nine administrative blocks.

The Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress candidates will be the main competitors in most of the villages. Some non-political, independents and those associated with other political parties will contest the elections. — TNS
