Following the practice of private schools, the Education Department has arranged a parents-teachers meeting at all upper primary government schools to discuss performance of students. The parents-teachers meeting is scheduled to held on March 31. Officials of the Education Department have instructed school heads to make announcements through public address system in villages and make parents aware about the meeting.

Schools had conducted evaluation examinations from March 6 to 18.

The objective of the meeting is to apprise parents about academic performance and participation of their children in extra-curriculum activities. Teachers will discuss improvement of students with parents during the meeting.

Officials of the Education Department instructed teachers to invite parents of students at separate timings between 9 am to 1 pm so that they could give their time to every parent.

According to the information, the staff of the District Education Office and Director General School Education will conduct surprise checking in schools to make sure that these meetings are conducted as per directions.

Meanwhile, teachers welcomed the move of the department.

“It is appreciable initiative by the Director General of School Education (DGSE). Most students in government schools are from economically weaker section. Parents make hard efforts to send their children to schools. But, they don’t have time to check their routine performance. Parents-teachers meetings will improve the performance of students,” said Gurpreet Singh, a school teacher.

Private schools conduct parents-teachers meeting every month. However, the Education Department started holding annual meeting in recent years.
