AMRITSAR: The police on Wednesday carried out security checks at the interstate bus terminus to thwart any untoward incident in view of the current the festival season.

The police on Wednesday carried out security checks at the interstate bus terminus to thwart any untoward incident in view of the current the festival season.

Around 80 cops, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Jaspreet Singh, carried out the search operation. The policemen searched the entire area by dividing it into five sections. Each area was thoroughly searched by a police tem, headed by an SHO-rank official. The police teams checked passengers and their belongings.

ACP Jaspreet Singh said the people should remain vigilant and immediately inform the police in case they found some bag or other things lying abandoned at the bus stand. He said the main motive of the search operation was to thwart any untoward incident in view of the current festival season.

The Punjab Police were already on high alert following intelligence inputs in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A from Jammu and Kashmir. A massive search operation was carried out in the border belt of Gurdaspur and Pathankot in the recent past while the Amritsar rural police have also strengthened its force in the border villages. Police checkposts were also increased along with intensifying police patrolling.
