Free-from the hectic election campaign some candidates are spending time with families while others are still in contacts with their supporters and keeping a watch on EVMs stored in strong rooms.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Jandiala Assembly constituency, Harbhajan Singh, like his opponent Sukhwinder Singh Danny passed most of his time at Government Girls Senior Secondary school, Mall Road, where EVMs have been kept in a strong room.

The candidates of the Jandiala constituency were called for a meeting with election officials at the strong room from 12 pm to nearly 7 pm to scrutinise election material. Harbhajan said after reaching home he would have tea with his family and may go out for dinner.

He ruled out vacation with his family as he preferred to keep in touch with natives of his Assembly while waiting for the result to be out. He wants to prepare a blueprint for development of the segment. The contest in Jandiala turned three cornered with arrival of the AAP.

Teacher-turned-excise officer Harbhajan Singh has dabbled in politics for the first time. After serving for four years in the PCS allied service in the Excise and Taxation Department he tendered his resignation to join politics.

On the other hand, BJP’s Tarun Chugh from the Amritsar (Central) Assembly constituency managed to take out time to share moments of campaigning with his family over a cup of tea.

“After a grueling election schedule, it was a luxury to wake up a little late in the morning”, he said while adding that, “I had tea and lunch with my family, comprising my father Banarsi Das (75), mother Kavita (70), wife Radhika, son Varun, and daughter Meera.”

In the evening, it was time to go back to work. He held meeting with core committee members of his area to gather information of the voting pattern in different areas of the constituency.

When asked about the nature of reports Chug said it was positive and in favour of the saffron party. He said, “I will visit party headquarters in Delhi in a couple of days.” On vacation plans, he said he planned a pilgrimage to Vrindavan with his family.

Talking to the Amritsar Tribune, Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia, the Congress candidate from the Majitha Assembly constituency, said there was no time for going to vacation or passing time with his family. He said, “I met supporters at my residence in the Dana Mandi area in Majitha.”

His supporters at Udoke Khurd and Mian Pandher villages were attacked by activists of the Akali party, he added. He said it was an indication of Bikram Singh Majithia losing mandate of the people.

Meanwhile, aides of Bikram Majithia were blissfully unaware of his movement. They said, “It is difficult to know movement of the VVIP candidate.”
