The Municipal Corporation has removed most political hoardings from major intersections and main roads in the city, but posters can be seen displayed in streets and inner areas. Following imposition of the code of conduct, Deputy Commissioner Basant Garg had ordered removal all posters, hoarding and wall paintings of political parties.

The advertisement cell of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has hired number of labourers to remove hoarding from the city. During the last three days, worker of the MC removed thousands of hoardings from unipoles and buildings. Workers were on the job even on January 5, which was public holiday.

Even after all these efforts, illegal hoardings and posters of political parties can still be seen hanging on walls and unipoles in inner localities.

Moreover, supporters of politicians have installed new hoardings to greet residents on Lohri festival. Wall paintings on outskirts are yet to be removed. Wall posters of political rallies can also see in the city and outskirts.

Meanwhile, Sher Singh, superintendent, advertisement cell of the MC, said they were working hard to remove hoarding. He said most hoardings and posters had been removed.

Meanwhile, residents have appreciated instructions of the Election Commission to remove posters and hoardings from the city. “Posters are still on display in localities. The MC should remove all political hoarding and take action against violators, who are again defacing the city. Electoral officials should also take notice of the practice,” said Gurpreet Singh.
