Powercom staff protest attack on SDO

TARN TARAN: Officials and employees of Powercom here on Friday staged a protest in front of the Sarai Amanat Khan police station against the attack on Jarnail Singh, Sub Divisional Officer, Sub-Division Sarai Amanat Khan, by Congress workers on Thursday.

Officials and employees of Powercom here on Friday staged a protest in front of the Sarai Amanat Khan police station against the attack on Jarnail Singh, Sub Divisional Officer, Sub-Division Sarai Amanat Khan, by Congress workers on Thursday.

DSP Sucha Singh said as many as 25 suspects had been booked under Sections 323, 324, 186 and 506 of the IPC.

The suspects, who have been identified, are Congress leader Avan Kumar, alias Sonu Cheema, former sarpanch of Cheema Khurd Malkiat Singh and Dhanna Singh.

According to information, as many as 200 residents of the area led by Congress leader Avan Kumar, allegedly detained officials and employees of Powercom at the sub-division office in Sarai Amanat Khan.

The officials were allegedly kept in captive by residents till the filing of the report. While addressing a gathering, Avan said the case had been registered on flimsy grounds.

Gurpreet singh Gandiwind, a Powercom employee, said the suspects were threatening the employees and officials while the police were a mute spectator.       

Neeraj Kumar, circle president, Technical Engineers’ Association, condemned the attack on the Sub Divisional Officer. — OC
