Amritsar, November 10

Alleged gross negligence by Punjab State power corporation Limited (PSPCL) employees led to the tragic death of a young girl at the Model Town area in Jandiala Guru. The victim was preparing for the UPSC examination.

The incident occurred in the Jandiala Guru area on September 9 and the police booked an executive engineer of the PSPCL, besides Estate Officer of the Jandiala Guru Nagar Council, for the act of negligence leading to death of the victim.

A case was registered under Section 304-A, IPC, at the police station in Jandiala Guru on November 6 following a complaint lodged by mother of the deceased.

The victim’s mother, Rajwant Kaur stated to the police that her husband was an Army person and she had two daughters and a son. She alleged that on September 9 her daughter, who was the victim, went upstairs for drying clothes. Rajwant said when she went on the roof high voltage power lines pulled her due which she suffered massive electric shock. She received critical burn injuries and died during treatment at a private hospital the next day. Initially, the police initiated action under Section 174, CrPC, and handed over the body to the family after postmortem examination.

Harpal Singh, SHO, Jandiala Guru police station, said, “An investigation has been launched. The police is looking into records to ascertain, who has passed the map, despite knowing that high voltage power lines pass through the area.”

The police would look into alleged negligence of the PSPCL authorities, he added.
