Cattle pound at Dubli crying for attention

The gaushala established by the state government in 2015 under a Central Government scheme at Dubli has been crying for attention since its inception. Due to its poor upkeep, cows are dying.

The pound has a capacity of 220 cows, but it is accommodating more than 350 animals with no proper arrangement. Though the cattle pound was the government-sponsored institution, workers of the Dhan Dhan Baba Sant Khalsa Sewa Society, Dubli, are looking after it.

Society office-bearers said the major reason for the death of more than 300 cows was poor upkeep of the gaushala by the administration. They said cows were not being properly fed.

Members of the society said there was no special arrangement for the cattle that get pregnant.

The society has taken a serious note of the administration’s decision to send more stray animals to the pound. They are of the view that the gaushala is full to capacity.

Gurjit Singh of the society said the issue of poor arrangements at the pound had been brought to the notice of the administration on a number of occasions, but to no avail.  That is why they had threatened to close down the pound, he said.
