Mystery shrouds the death of a 53-year-old man, identified as Balbir Singh of Othian village that comes under the Rajasansi police station.

Balbir had died of poisoning at a private hospital on Friday. While family members of the victim alleged that he was forcibly given poison by several persons of the same village due an old enmity, the police have now registered an abetment-to-suicide case against three persons in this connection.

Alleging police inaction, the family members said though Balbir was given poison two days ago and the police were informed in this regard, no one from the Rajasansi police station came to record the statement. They said the police also did not initiate any probe.

Deceased’s wife Kulwant Kaur said two days ago, neighbours had informed them that Balbir was lying on a roadside and his cloths were torn. Thereafter, they rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital.

She said it appeared that he was thrashed before giving poison.

She blamed Jassa Singh and his sons Gurdip Singh and Kalu Singh for it. Kulwant added that they used to speak an abusive language against her husband. She said they had also filed a false complaint against Balbir. They used to keep grudge against them as they had supported the SAD, while they are Congress supporters, she added.

Angrej Singh, who is investigating the matter, said earlier, they had not received any complaint from the victim’s family. He said they came to know about the incident from the hospital authorities.

“When we received a complaint, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against three persons. The suspects will be arrested soon,” he said.

The police officer said around 15 days ago, the suspects had filed a complaint of sexual harassment against Balbir.
