Amritsar: Isaac Masih, a resident of Sufian village in Ramdass, died of drug abuse on Friday. He was admitted to a private hospital after his condition deteriorated but sent back after treatment. Later, he died of drug abuse, his family said.

Jagir Masih, brother of the deceased, serves in the police. He said Isaac became drug addict around five years ago. He had become habitual of taking intoxicants and drug injections. He is survived by his wife and three children.

According to his family, Issac, a daily wager, went to sleep after dinner on Thursday night. His condition started deteriorating in the morning hours so he was taken to a private hospital. The hospital authorities discharged him after initial treatment. He was brought back, but again his health condition started worsening. He was again rushed to the hospital where he died.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh said he was not aware of the incident as family members had not informed the police.

In the past over a month, a number of deaths due to drug overdose or due to non-availability of drugs have surfaced, forcing the police to tighten the noose around the drug traffickers. TNS
