Amritsar, February 21

As many as 523 employees, whose services were terminated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) last year, got the support of Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira here on Thursday. The sacked employees have been protesting for reinstatement.

Kulbir Singh Zira visited the SGPC office to submit a memorandum and met the demonstrators. Gobind Singh Longowal said, “The matter of the employees is under consideration. We are getting legal opinion. A committee has been constituted to review their demand and decide accordingly.”

The sacked employees, including women, had joined during the tenure of the then SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar. They were expelled when Longowal took the charge. The protesters said they met Sukhbir Singh Badal, but to no avail.
