Badminton meet: Specially abled boy brings laurels to dist

Yashveer Goyal, a specially abled boy, has brought laurels to the district by winning silver and bronze medals in the double and individual categories, respectively, in the 9th Punjab State Deaf Badminton Championship, organised by the Punjab Deaf and Dumb Sports Association, on April 22 in Chandigarh.

Yashveer, who is yet to complete 19 years, has been selected for the national badminton championship, which is likely to be held in Maharashtra in September or October this year.

This was the first attempt by Yashveer in the state championship, where he has come out with flying colours. He will play in individual and double categories in the national badminton championship.

Yashveer played six matches in the championship and won four matches with ease and lost two matches to players, who were about 30 years in age, with a narrow margin.

He lost in the semi-final in the individual category and lost in the final in the double category. Players from all districts of the state participated in the championship.

Earlier too, Yashveer had been in the limelight for being the only boy from the state to date, to have won the Achievement Award in Global Information Technology (IT) Championship, held in Hanoi (Vietnam), in 2017, as he represented India.

Before this, he had won gold medal and overall trophy in the National IT Challenge for Youths with Disabilities, held by the Ministry of social justice, government of India, at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, in 2017.
