Barnala, July 13

To tackle the drug menace, the Barnala administration has formed seven special teams, which will raise awareness against drugs among common people and motivate them to get drug addicts to take treatment.

The teams have been formed under the Drug Abuse and Prevention Officer (DAPO) programme of the Punjab Government, which was launched to eradicate drugs from the state with common people’s cooperation.

Barnala Deputy Commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta said each team would comprise an administrative official and an SP or DSP of the police department, others from the Health and other departments. They would visit every village of Barnala district till August 2018.

“The team members will visit the allocated villages and make villagers aware of the ill-effects of drugs. Besides awareness activities, the teams will also conduct raids to check the sale of medicines which could be used as drugs,” said the DC.

SSP Harjit Singh said the police had initiated a drive to motivate drug addicts to undergo medical treatment. He cautioned that a list of drug addicts of Barnala district was being prepared.
