Bathinda, July 24

Nine days on, residence of the IGP is still submerged in rainwater. He is forced to put up at a private hotel in the city, but now he is planning to shift to the guest house.

IGP Bathinda Range MF Farooqui is known for his passion of Urdu poetry. It is learnt that many of his manuscripts have also got damaged in the rain, which created havoc in the city on July 16.

Moreover, the huge loss of household items, including furniture and other things have been reported in the heavy rain which lashed out the city on the morning of July 16.

More than 4 feet of water was accumulated inside the IGP residence. Even the household items from the IGP’s residence have already been shifted to other areas in the city.

The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that still 2 feet water is lying waterlogged at his residence. Motors have been pumping the accumulated water but rain hampers the work as residences of all the senior officials have been located in low lying areas, which is the major reason behind the waterlogging.

Even MF Farooqui today himself visited and reviewed the rainwater disposal work going on at his residence. It is pertinent to mention that whenever city received heavy rains, the official residences of IGP Bathinda Range, District and Session Judge, Deputy Commissioner and SSP are the worst. Even roads are filled with sludge which is giving commuters a tough time.
