Clerk gets 4-year jail in bribery case

Bathinda: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Kawaljeet Singh Bajwa on Friday sentenced four-year imprisonment to and Rs 10,000 fine on Vinay Kumar, a clerk with the Municipal Corporation. Vinay Kumar was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau on May 18, 2015 red-handed taking Rs 10,000 in bribe from Shivraj Singh, a resident of Raike Kalan in Bathinda. Vinay worked as clerk of the local registrar (birth and death) in the MCB where Shivraj Singh approached him for the certificate of his sister living abroad. A Vigilance team led by DSP Bhupinder Singh arrested him with Rs 10,000 and a blank cheque in the name of Vinay. A case under Sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of the Corruption Act, 1988 was registered against him at the Vigilance police station. After three years of trial, the court pronounced the sentence. TNS

Fake Godman assaulted

Bathinda: Residents of Gulabgarh village on Friday caught a fake Godman and assaulted him. The elderly person then apologised. No police complaint has been lodged. He demanded Rs 51,000 from a  woman whose husband is in jain and allegedly molested her. TNS
