CUP selected as IESO entrance test centre

BATHINDA: The department of geography and geology, Central University of Punjab (CUP), has been selected by the Geological Society of India as a test centre for students of classes XI and XII of the Malwa region.

The department of geography and geology, Central University of Punjab (CUP), has been selected by the Geological Society of India as a test centre for students of classes XI and XII of the Malwa region.

The department is among the 80 test centres, which will conduct the entrance test to select students for International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), 2019.

Earlier, the test was conducted in Chandigarh, Amritsar and Pathankot. Now with Central University of Punjab selected as a test centre for IESO exam, Bathinda would be a popular destination.

Jitendra Kumar Pattanaik, officiating head, department of geography and geology, CUP, said, “Selecting CUP as the centre for IESO entrance exam will not only help interested students from this part of state to participate in this prestigious event, but will also provide an opportunity to them to represent India in the 13th edition of IESO 2019 at Daegu in South Korea to be organised in September by International Geoscience Education Organisation.

Pattanaik added, “Such initiatives will spread awareness of career perspectives in earth sciences field as geologist in Geological Survey of India, mining sector, petroleum and gas sector, NHPC, civil engineering projects and central ground water boards.

He said maximum schools should participate in this olympiad and should encourage students to submit their application by January 15 and appear in the IESO test on January 19 at Central University of Punjab.

International Earth Science Olympiad is an annual competition for secondary school students. Its aim is to promote geo science education worldwide and foster-friendly relationship among young learners from different countries. Besides, it will promote international cooperation in exchanging ideas and materials on earth sciences and earth sciences education.

Varsity dept among 80 test centres

  • The department is among the 80 test centres, which will conduct the entrance test to select students for International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), 2019. Earlier, the test was conducted in Chandigarh, Amritsar and Pathankot.
