Disaster management camp organised at CUP

NSS students of the Central University of Punjab (CUP) in association with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) organised a training camp on disaster management on Wednesday.

Inspector Govind Singh, Inspector Nakul Kumar, SI Sanjay Bist, ASI Pritam Singh and the entire team of NDRF 7th BN, Bathinda, visited the CUP campus to impart training to students. The objective was to prepare them to how to tackle a difficult situation. They were taught how to save lives and make use of low-cost life-saving equipment.

Dr Deepak K Chauhan, programme coordinator, NSS cell, and Dr Monisha Dhiman, programme officer, welcomed the guests and introduced the programme theme and its necessity.

NDRF officials imparted training to students on pre-hospital treatment techniques, including how to check bleeding and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Well-trained persons from the NDRF demonstrated emergency relief and rescue operations as part of the mock drill held in the building of CUP (City Campus Admin Block).

During the programme, various search and rescue equipment, communication equipment and improvised rafts were exhibited for creating awareness among youngsters.

Officials of the NDRF said the prevention of disaster began with awareness. They also mentioned that students and teachers could serve as messengers for promoting the culture of safety and disaster risk reduction. — TNS
